As time goes on, we are seeing more and more images of the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian in Florida. Tens of thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed, leaving many families homeless and desperate. In addition to the lives lost, this storm has also had a significant impact on local businesses and infrastructure.
Wind speeds of 155 mph made Hurricane Ian the most powerful to hit Florida since Andrew in 1992. The gulf side of Florida, particularly Lee County and the city of Fort Myers were struck hardest by the hurricane. Unfortunately, at least 125 people didn't survive this natural disaster — making it the deadliest hurricane in Florida since Katrina back in 2005.
Ian wreaked havoc on Florida, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. Thousands of homes and businesses were destroyed, leaving many people homeless or without power and water. Hospitals and schools also suffered damage, while roads and bridges were washed away by flooding. This led to widespread property damage across the state.
Fortunately, many people and organizations have offered aide to the Florida community in aftermath of Hurricane Ian. After the hurricane, federal grants, disaster loans and flood insurance payments totaling more than $1.27 billion were made available to help Florida residents begin their rebuilding process.
As a small business based in Tampa, FL, we at AquaBlu have felt the impact of this storm firsthand. Our amazing community has been there to support us from the start, and as such, we feel that it’s our responsibility to return that support in any way we can.
To start, we have donated to local relief efforts including the Florida Swimming Pool Association. Because the effects of this natural disaster have affected residents and small businesses alike, we are committed to helping alleviate the future cost of repairs. We are currently working with both homeowners and pool builders to lower the cost of materials such as glass and porcelain tile, installation materials like grouts and adhesives, and much more.
If you would like to donate to help the community rebuild, we ask that you please donate to the FSPA’s gofundme here.
Although the current situation may look grim, there is always hope. In fact, many people in Florida are helping each other rebuild after the hurricane. If you need assistance as a homeowner or pool owner, rest assured that we are here to assist you in the rebuilding process.
