Renovating your Master Bathroom with Glass Tile

Renovating your Master Bathroom with Glass Tile
by AquaBlu Mosaics

Thinking of renovating your master bathroom?  Think glass tile.

A master bathroom should be a calm, quiet retreat.

The space we inhabit has a huge influence on our personality and approach to life. Making your home beautiful and fresh is a great way to invite a daily influx of joy into your life, which eventually trickles down to everything you do.

Nothing lifts your spirit like starting your day in a room you love.

Besides all that, when it comes to the resale value of a home, renovating your master bathroom is arguably one of the most important investments you can make.

As always, beginning a renovation project is the most stressful part of a room makeover due to all the different design possibilities.

So here’s a suggestion:

Start with the tile.

Why Glass Is A Good Idea

Mosaic glass tile offers a  contemporary look that is refreshing and unique. Glass tile in the shower is an outstanding choice if you are looking to add something a little different to your shower design.

For example, vibrant jewel tone glass tile hues create an eye-catching statement with your shower. Soothing blue and green tone bathroom glass tile creates a cool, coastal look, ideal for rest and relaxation. Then there’s earth tone hues for a sophisticated, spa-inspired oasis.

Overall, the pros of using glass mosaic tile in a master bathroom renovation are considerable, such as:

  • Glass reflects light, making your shower appear larger.
  • Glass tile is impervious to water, and will not stain.
  • Glass tile is translucent, therefore, unlike any other surface material that beautiful color you picked out will show all the way through the tile, providing an additional sense of depth and dimension.
  • Glass tile is relatively low maintenance, all you need to keep it clean is window cleaner and a cloth, making it an ideal choice for the shower where you will experience soap build up that needs to be cleaned regularly.
  • Glass tile is beautiful and offers your bathroom a unique visual appeal, and with an enormous selection of colors and mosaics to choose from, your design options are literally limitless.

At the forefront, keep in mind that glass mosaic tiles are considered the crème de la crème when it comes to bathroom surfaces. Gleaming glass will illuminate the bathroom in wonderful hues and is ideal for the walls, floor, bathtub surround or just an accent.

Because of the enormous selection of glass mosaic tile colors, shapes and textures, design possibilities are numerous. Here are a few we recommend:

Subway Tile Still Trending

Seems like subway tile has been around forever, yet it’s still popular. This is especially true when applied to master bathroom showers. The clean, solid look of subway glass tiles make them a perfect choice for floor to ceiling coverage. If you want something different from the standard brick subway tile pattern, you can always turn subway tile vertically or even mix shapes in modular patterns.

Subway tiles are now available in many different colors. Choosing two complimentary colors such as gray and blue gray or a luxurious blue blend can create an engaging master bath shower that you may have trouble leaving.

Framed Focal Point

A popular framing technique for master bathrooms is to layout a neutral-colored glass tile on the walls of the master bath shower then frame the shower head and shower valve areas in a tall rectangle of darker tiles. This shouts there is something special and exciting about this shower.

Linear Bathroom Walls

A striking contrast to larger square floor tiles, consider smaller linear glass tiles on master bathroom walls. Strategically selected surfaces create a light and bright atmosphere. An oversize mirror on one wall of the bathroom helps create the illusion of a larger space.

This is really a multipurpose design element. Glass tile’s amazing reflective qualities can mimic trees, shrubs and other natural elements you might have growing in a garden or lawn just outside the master bathroom.

Dimensional Glass Tiles

No one says you have to refurbish with square tiles. Dimensional glass mosaic tiles, especially hexagon glass tile shapes, look sensational and elevate your interior design. Geometric tiles can be used on a large scale (walls or bathroom backsplash) to set the tone for the bathroom or they can be used on an accent wall to create a bold pivot from the rest of the bathroom. In large bathrooms, such as a master bath, they form artful accents in places like the spa area or the makeup station.

Despite their delicate appearance, hexagonal glass tiles are very durable and hard-wearing. The six-edge shapes offer renovators and builders plenty of options as they come in a wide range of colors, finishes, materials and sizes.

Smaller Glass Tiles for Shower Floor

Just because you can’t see the shower floor until you’re practically standing on it doesn’t mean you should ignore it. The trick here is to continue the glass tile theme but keep the slippery factor in mind.

Many glass tiles now come with textured surfaces, such as the Vidrepur Antislip collection. Generally, smaller 1” x 1” or 1” x 2”  or 2” x 2” glass tile chips improve traction because of the many grout joints – joints that can also be incorporated into your design if you use multicolored epoxy glass tile grout.
